Six weeks until the Phoenix Marathon. Time is flying by. This was an easier/cutback week compared to the previous week- still 60 miles total, but the workouts were definitely easier. Here's how it all worked out: Monday: Mile repeats at "tempo" pace. 2 mile warm-up, 4 mile repeats at tempo pace (7:40 min/mile), 2 minute rest in between, 1 mile cool-down, 7.75 miles total. I did this Continue Reading
Weekly Recap: The Phoenix Marathon is in 7 Weeks!
Another week, another weekly recap of training for the Phoenix Marathon! Here's how it worked out this week: Monday: Easy 6 miles in the morning with my friend Christie Tuesday: Tough workout after work at run club with my "pacer" Dustin. My coach calls it "15-10-10-5" workout; apparently this workout is kind of notorious with him, as it should be. It was hard! It was 15 minutes at a tempo Continue Reading
Fitting Remarks: A Reflection on 2015.
As 2015 comes to its close, I decided to take some time and reflect on the year. I started 2015 on a three month work assignment to Singapore. I remember someone commenting then that it would be my "longest year ever" since I entered 2015 thirteen hours "earlier" than Minneapolis did, so I will get thirteen more hours this year, ha! I wouldn't say it ended up being a Continue Reading
Guest Post: An Injury-Prone Runner’s Path to a Strong Marathon
We runners face a multitude of challenges along each of our running journeys- some nutritional, some physical, some mental. Each challenge can be incredibly frustrating- I know. My running club friend Betsy considers herself to be “injury-prone” and has had her own set of challenges, but she recently set a HUGE PR at the Twin Cities Marathon in 2015. She graciously offered to share her running Continue Reading
Weekly Recap is BACK!
Weekly training recaps are BACK...why? Because I registered for the Phoenix Marathon! Not to be confused with the Rock n Roll marathon that is also in Phoenix, the Phoenix Marathon is a small marathon on Saturday, February 27th. Yay for Saturday marathons! It's also a (mostly) downhill course and hopefully will be my Boston Qualifier opportunity. I have a few running friends who ran it in Continue Reading
Weekly Recap: Post-Marathon
A weekly recap when I'm not training for anything??? Well, I like sharing (obviously- that's why I have a blog!) Even though I'm not running, it felt weird not sitting down for my weekly recap to catch up, so I thought I'd share how I spent this week of recovery post-Richmond <-- catch up on my race recap there if you missed it! Often after a marathon, I schedule a massage, but I Continue Reading
Fits Do Race Reviews: The Anthem Richmond Marathon 2015
Marathon #20: complete! 15 states down, 35 to go (wow, that's a lot more to go- it's going to take a lifetime!) The Richmond Marathon was really great. I think it might be in my top 5 favorite marathons...which would be Tokyo, Twin Cities, St. George Utah, Big Sur, and...Richmond! Actually, it's probably tied with Steamtown in Scranton, PA, but it was definitely a good one. The Richmond Continue Reading
