I'm four weeks post-leg break and three weeks post-surgery. (If you're catching up, read this post and this post.) This week definitely showed signs of progress. I still had my moments when I felt sorry for myself, especially when seeing pictures on social media of all the fun the Marathon Tours group was having in Antarctica. :( Social media can be harmful that way, can't it? Seeing how Continue Reading
Week 3 of the Broken Leg
I made it through another week of recovery. If you're just catching up, I broke my leg three weeks ago running; I slipped on the ice while doing my long run on February 17th. Two weeks ago I had surgery to put it all back together (like Humpty Dumpty). It's only been 3 weeks but it feels like an eternity. This upheaval in my plans happened three weeks ago and three weeks before I was Continue Reading
“It’s the only thing that makes me feel normal…”
Showering. It's the only thing that makes me feel normal. Which is why when Dustin gently (cautiously? lovingly?) suggested that I probably don't need to shower every day this week, I instantly burst into tears. Not shower? How could he say that? Maybe because I have to scoot on my butt up a flight of stairs to our master bathroom with the walk-in shower with the adjustable shower Continue Reading
Weekly Recap…
If you missed my post from yesterday, you might want to catch up here. With this drastic change in plans (an undesired change, mind you), I doubt I'll have much to share in weekly recaps for fitness for awhile. But I still want to continue connecting with you all, so I'll probably share recaps of my recovery. (HoHo Runs and Wendy, I hope that's okay!) But I did have one regular week left of Continue Reading
56 Weeks Until The Antarctica Marathon: Change of Plans.
56 weeks? Hopefully. That is, if we can defer to next year. Why? Because this happened. If you're versed in reading x-rays, you'll see two severe breaks below. Apparently there are three. According to the ER doc, I will need surgery ASAP to put in plates. I can't make any appointments until Monday, so for now I wait, uncomfortably... And...Antarctica is off the table. So Continue Reading
Weekly Recap: 5 Weeks Until the Antarctica Marathon
Another week of training for the Antarctica Marathon is complete! Let me share how things went: Monday: 8.5 miles after work. I tried my best to pick up the pace for some of it, but struggled due to to...well, due to everything I think! The snow, the weather, tired legs from two consecutive 60 mile weeks. I had a tempo workout on the schedule but I didn't hit the paces. I did what I could. Winter Continue Reading
Preparing for the Antarctica Marathon
I've been sharing my weekly recaps of training for the Antarctica Marathon, but I thought I'd share more information about the trip overall. Of course, it will be totally different when I have a real experience to share with you! But here goes... We are running the Antarctica Marathon through Marathon Tours. All the information about registration can be found HERE. There is another marathon on Continue Reading
