This past week was a bit of a bust...Every training cycle has its highs and lows. I'd classify this past week as a "low." I didn't have any runs where I felt strong and my paces were so far off of where they should be. I know that it was the heat and humidity; of course it was...But it was still hard. I still love running...I just am feeling a little disheartened with my runs this Continue Reading
Weekly Recap: Big Cottonwood Training
Training for Big Cottonwood is up and running! I am back up to the high mileage again and excited to see what I can do at the Big Cottonwood Marathon. Here's how my training went this past week: Monday: The same workout as last week at the cabin, but this time I did it in Minneapolis before work- much easier on flat roads! 2 mile warm-up, 6x1200m at a 7:30 pace with 1 minute recovery, 2 Continue Reading
Weekly Recap: Training for the Big Cottonwood Marathon!
Yes, it's official! I registered for the Big Cottonwood Marathon on September 10th. Boston registration opens on September 12, so this will be my 'last chance marathon.' It starts at altitude, but it has a LOT of downhill. My coach said I'll need to do some hard training on the downhill to prepare my quads. But look at those stats- 25% of runners qualify for Boston at Big Cottonwood. I like Continue Reading
Weekly Recap & The Post-Marathon Blues.
I have a bit of the post-marathon blues. I trained hard for Grandma's Marathon and it didn't go the way I had hoped. I think another reason for the blues that normally when I finish a marathon, I have the next one selected and a potential trip booked to look forward to. But this time? I'm a little lost. I don't know what's next on my racing schedule. I don't have my next marathon Continue Reading
Fits Do Race Reviews: The TC 1 Mile
This past Thursday, I raced the TC 1 Mile! This is my fifth time running this race; I ran this race in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015. In 2014, the race was cancelled due to the weather, otherwise I would have run it then too! Every year, as I nervously wait for the starting gun to go off, I curse this race and say I'll never do it again...why? Because it's hard! It HURTS to go as hard as you Continue Reading
Fitting Remarks: Our Kitchen Remodel
This post has nothing to do with fitness or fitness fashion. In fact, Dustin didn't want me to share these pictures as he thinks its a little too personal, but I convinced him that you guys might enjoy it. Just like the shows on HGTV, everyone enjoys some before/after pictures of a remodel, right? Our house was built in 1920. There have been at least three previous owners and the ones before Continue Reading
Fitting Remarks: How Not to Date a Runner.
The other day, a friend of mine sent a group text to a bunch of runner gals about a first-date fail, where she ate twice as much as the guy she was out with and she ate it twice as fast! That text started a barrage of testimonies of other bad first dates specifically for runners. Apparently there are a lot of things you shouldn't do if you want to date a runner. This same group of friends gave Continue Reading
