Dustin survived his first "ultra!" I tagged along and survived my first trail run (25k) at altitude. The word "ultra" marathon is such a broad term. I guess it means anything longer than 26.2 miles and most "ultras" are trail races. It seems that in the "ultra" world, the 50k distance is just a "beginner" race into the world of ultra long distance, with 50 and 100 milers being quite popular. Continue Reading
Fits Do Race Reviews: The Get in Gear 10k
Last Saturday was the Get in Gear 10k. There was also a half-marathon and a 5k on Saturday. The evening before was a 2k for kids! I ran the 10k because that race was part of my running club's USATF racing circuit. As I mentioned in my weekly recap, my coach had me "taper" a bit for this race, so my legs were a bit more rested than they normally would be mid-marathon training. I think it worked! Continue Reading
Fits Do Race Reviews: The Ron Daws 25k
This past Saturday, I ran the Ron Daws 25k. This was my 3rd year running this race. I ran it in 2013 as a training run for the Newport Marathon and I ran it in 2014 as a training run for the Flying Pig Marathon. Start Line: The race starts at 8 am at a church parking lot in Hopkins. There is plenty of parking at the church as well as bathrooms and a warm place to wait. We arrived around 7:30 Continue Reading
Fits do Race Reviews: The Irish Run 8k
Follow my blog with Bloglovin Last Sunday, I ran the Irish Run 8k. There aren't a ton of 8k's out there but it's actually a pretty fun distance. An 8k is nearly 5 miles. With a 1.5 mile warmup and 1 mile cooldown, I ended with 7.5 miles on the day, which was a solid workout! The Irish Run 8k race has been around for many years. From the race's website, "the race began as the St. Patrick`s Continue Reading
Fits Do Race Reviews: The Tokyo Marathon 2015
Marathon #18 complete (#22 for Dustin) and this one was one I will never forget! The Tokyo Marathon was an incredible experience. Though my finish time wasn't quite what I had hoped for, I only have positive feelings about this day and this experience. Thank you to the city of Tokyo for hosting such a spectacular event. It was, hands down, one of the coolest marathon experiences of my Continue Reading
Fits Do Race Reviews: The Tokyo Marathon EXPO
The Tokyo Marathon expo was held at the Tokyo Big Sight, a new convention center in Tokyo. source We went to the expo as part of the Marathon Tour group on Friday. Read about the rest of our city tour here. The tour dropped us off and said we had about one hour to spend there. Based on our experience at the Berlin Marathon expo, where we waited in lines many hours, we were both worried that Continue Reading
Fits Do Race Reviews: The City of Lakes Half Marathon
This past Sunday, I ran the Jeff Winter City of Lakes half marathon. I believe this race was the original Minneapolis marathon (you can read about the history of the race HERE). Then it was changed to a 25k. This year was the first year that it was changed to a half marathon. The course starts at Beard's Plaisance on Lake Harriet. It goes around Lake Harriet to Lake Calhoun back to Lake Harriet Continue Reading
