Hello there! I'm posting my weekly recap a little late (err, my sole weekly post...man, I need to find time to blog more often!) I have an excuse, we were out of town on a little vacation. But I'm here to share how fitness went in my world now that I am 10 weeks post-dramatic tibia/fibula break. Let's recap! Monday: [solidcore] in the morning, PT at Mayo AND a 10 week appointment with my Continue Reading
Weekly Recap: Six Weeks Post-Broken Leg
Can you tell which leg is broken? It's looking so much better! Still swollen of course, but better. Before I delve into my regular weekly recap, I want to ask you to check out this post from earlier in the week. 10 Things I've Learned So Far From a Broken Leg I think you'll really enjoy it and it does a great job of explaining where I am right now. And if you've been injured before, hopefully Continue Reading
Fitting Remarks: 10 Things I’ve Learned So Far From a Broken Leg
On February 17th, I slipped on the ice during a 20 mile long run and broke my tibia and fibula in multiple places. I had surgery a week later, with screws and plates implanted to hold it all together. This all happened three weeks before my husband and I were supposed to embark on a two-week trip to Antarctica, where I would have completed my 30th marathon, the Antarctica Marathon. Weekly Recap Five Weeks Post-Broken Leg
(If you primarily pop in here for my weekly recap, be sure to check out THIS POST from earlier this week!) Week 5! Yup, it's been FIVE weeks since I broke my tibia and fibula (and four weeks since I had surgery to put it all back together.) I'm still doing my weekly recaps, just as I used to, though let's be honest, they look a whole lot different than they did 6-7 weeks ago, don't Continue Reading
Four Weeks Post-Break, Three Weeks Post-Surgery
I'm four weeks post-leg break and three weeks post-surgery. (If you're catching up, read this post and this post.) This week definitely showed signs of progress. I still had my moments when I felt sorry for myself, especially when seeing pictures on social media of all the fun the Marathon Tours group was having in Antarctica. :( Social media can be harmful that way, can't it? Seeing how Continue Reading
Weekly Recap: Scooting Right Along…
Who's ready for another broken leg self-pity post? You are? Good! You came to the right place. I'll write this as a weekly recap, just as I used to....you know, back when I was training for a marathon in Antarctica. :( Monday: I worked from home on Monday because I needed to keep my leg elevated above my heart for at least 4 days after surgery. (Did you miss my post about my surgery? Continue Reading
56 Weeks Until The Antarctica Marathon: Change of Plans.
56 weeks? Hopefully. That is, if we can defer to next year. Why? Because this happened. If you're versed in reading x-rays, you'll see two severe breaks below. Apparently there are three. According to the ER doc, I will need surgery ASAP to put in plates. I can't make any appointments until Monday, so for now I wait, uncomfortably... And...Antarctica is off the table. So Continue Reading
