Hello and happy Sunday. It’s time for another weekly recap; but before I delve in, be sure to check out my post from Tuesday, “Popular Races I don’t Want to Run!” and let me know what your answers would be!
Here’s how things went in fitness and life this week!
Monday: 7 morning miles with my friend Christie.
Virtual 1:1 with Discover Strength after work
Tuesday: 6 morning miles with Christie and Julie. We witnessed a rafter of turkeys on the run!
Still loving the Brooks jacket I purchased a few weeks ago! It’s the perfect spring layering option.
Wednesday: It poured all Tuesday night and never stopped on Wednesday; I don’t mind running in the rain, but it’s hard to get motivated to head out into the pouring rain. I opted to just do my short speed workout on the treadmill.
The workout was 30 minutes easy, 4x(1 min on, 45 sec recover, 45 second on, 30 second recover, 30 seconds on, 15 seconds recover, 15 seconds on, 1 minute recover between sets) and then cool-down to get to 7 miles, 9 min/mile average.
The really short sprints were a little tough on the treadmill. Our Landice is really responsive and quick to get up to speed, but 15 seconds is really short, so hard to make that work. But the effort was there, I did the best I could on the treadmill.
Virtual 1:1 with Discover Strength after work
Thursday: 7 morning miles with my friends, done, showered, and on a zoom by 8 am!
Friday: 5 miles with my friend Vicki before work, virtual 1:1 strength session after work
Saturday: Long run day! I had 12 easy miles with friends, 9:05 min/mile average. The forecast called for rain all day, but we lucked out and it didn’t start until we were done.
With the ice on the chain of lakes melting, there are a lot of muskrats scurrying across the lakes! I suppose they are a rodent, but I still think they’re kinda cute. 🙂
Later on Saturday, we attended our friends Sarah and Jeremy’s Zoom wedding! My first zoom wedding. It was lovely. Congratulations Sarah and Jeremy!
Sunday: Dustin, Ruth, and I ran together, 8 miles, 8:40 min/mile average. Officially Ruth’s longest run!
Summary: 53 miles of running, 3 strength training sessions.
The best non-running part of the week was definitely the DOGS. With some friends traveling for spring break, we opened the ‘Benson Dog Hotel’ again, ha! It’s been awhile since we dog-sat for anyone since no one has really been traveling.
First to join us was Maple, a 1-year vizsla. She’s the adorable pup of Ami, the photographer who has often taken our family photos, like these!
Ruth and Maple are a good pair; they have the same energy and love to play. Matilda just keeps an eye over things.
Can you tell which one is Ruth and which one is Maple?
This upcoming week, we will be rotating in (and out) a few more dogs. Be prepared for lots more pup pics next week!
And that’s a wrap; I hope you had a great week in fitness, be sure to visit all the other bloggers who link up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner Check it out!
That treadmill speed workout sounds tough! Great job! I’ve never attended a Zoom wedding, but I’m sure they’ve become more common this past year!
I don’t mind short speed outside, but on the treadmill it was challenging. So much speed up and down!
That was my first zoom wedding. Technically, she had people in person, just immediate family, and everyone else could watch over zoom.
Yay more pup pics. I co uldn’t tell Ruth & Maple apart on your insta, and now I don’t feel as bad. Aren’t the names of groups of animals just so fun?
Was it Muskrat Suzy or Sam?
Can’t recall if you’ve posted about it or not, what’s your ribcage tat?
I can tell Ruth and Maple apart only because I know Ruth’s face so well! Love the animal group names…
My tattoo says RUN!
They are triplets!!! I cannot tell them apart. What I’ve learned to do when doing a workout like that is to change the speed a few seconds before I am to start said workout. Then I feel like I started it right on time. 🙂
Good tip Zenaida!
You had some interesting animal sightings this week, lol. Any idea where all of the turkeys cam from? I’ve never seen that many in a group at once!
Congrats to Ruth on her longest run! Loved seeing all the photos of the dogs too.
We do have a lot of turkeys around here, it’s random though! I don’t really know why.
That last photo with both on your lap is precious!
It is really hard to do short intervals on the mill. I’ve never tried to do ones that short! Good job!
I think muskrats are cute, too, and remember when I saw my first back at the end of fall.
Ruth and Maple love to cuddle together!
How fun to have a house full of dogs! We used to have a lot of wild turkeys near where I worked. Those suckers thought nothing of walking into the street and stopping traffic.
Haha, yep, the turkeys don’t care about traffic rules 🙂
Awww, I love all the pups! Cocoa is not a dog lover–I believe she doesn’t think she’s a dog, so a sleepover would be a bad idea at my house, lol. I saw a young family with a little cocker spaniel this morning and she was so friendly. Unlike Cocoa, lol.
My treadmill takes 15 seconds just to get to the speed I want! If I’m doing intervals, I let it run and I hop on and off. It’s ridiculous.
Matilda doesn’t always love all the extra dogs, but she’s pretty tolerant I suppose for her age. Our house is getting pretty messy though!
oh my the dog photos are so adorable! A Zoom wedding is interesting. I have 2 ZoomBar Mitzvahs coming this month Great week of running too! Thanks for linking
It was my first zoom wedding; I think her videographer hosted it as it was very well done. She had immediate family in person; just friends and extended family watched via zoom! They’re hoping for an in-person reception in the future.
We had that same rain pattern last week, but this week is looking much warmer and dryer. Great week for you! Cute doggy pics 😉
Thanks Kim!
just love those pics!!!!!!!!!!!
Great week of running esp with the weather forecast.
I don’t run in the rain unless it’s a race.
I got lucky today and the rain started after I finished my hike.
I’m generally okay in the rain, but its hard to get motivated to head out into it!
The Benson dog hotel is adorable! Those pics are absolutely precious! Maple is a pretty name for a Vizsla! Great week of workouts. Those speed intervals sound tough!
Thanks Marcia! Yes, Maple is a cute name for a maple colored pup 🙂
All the dogs are so cute! It’s great that they all get along.
15 second intervals are hard to — I don’t if I can adjust my speed that quickly!
They do get along! It’s great fun.
Small animals always freak me out when I run especially because normally I run in the dark and don’t really see them until they are right underfoot! Possums are abundant in this area…they always freak out when they hear someone coming (I think they are blind) so they end up running right under your feet!
I don’t think I have ever seen a possum! That’s an interesting one.
I love that Brooks jacket as well. I have two from years ago that I still wear regularly so I don’t need a new one, but I’m tempted! Growing up, we never saw wild turkeys on the farm, but they’ve become much more common in recent years and I see them while out running. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a muskrat in the wild, but I bet they look somewhat like groundhogs which I think are kind of cute unless they’re eating my flowers. LOL Nope, I can’t tell which is Ruth and which is Maple. Matilda, on the… Read more »
Matilda has the gray hair of a senior 🙂 Actually Maple was the one in the middle in that pic! Ruth has a bit more of an ‘ice glare’ we like to say, ha! She just stares at ya!
Lovely pics and great running! Love the pic at your friends’ wedding, complete with champagne glasses.
We don’t normally drink champagne in the middle of a Saturday, but figured it was a special occasion!
I am always here for doggo pictures!
Great work out there this week! I have never seen a muskrat before – they are so cute!
haha, you are just as much of a dog lover as me, Jenn!
Love the dog pictures! They’re beautiful! And I love your treadmill setup… looks like you’ve got some good entertainment there.
Great week of running and strength… hope you have fun with the dog hotel this week!
Thanks Jenny! Yes, my treadmill set up isn’t too bad. Makes it a lot easier to be motivated to run inside!
Your pup pics make me smile! 🙂
Those intervals sound challenging – great job!
Thank you Michelle!
Aww, Maple made the blog! We should have gotten them all together over the weekend – can you imagine six vizslas?! ha!
Your early morning runs make me miss morning workouts so much! Awesome week of running, Jessie!
Ah, 6 vizslas would be nuts! But would have been pretty cute. I’d love to see Hazel/Maple/Ollie/Luma together in real life to see how similar they are. Ruth has such a different face than Maple. it was easy to tell them apart. And then Matilda just has the sweetest old lady face that I couldn’t love any more than I do 🙂
