All I can say about this week is thank goodness for my treadmill.
Minneapolis was hit this week with a CRAZY cold spell- cold even for Minneapolis. Combined with a very long and busy work at week (I ended up with 65 hours at the office- that’s a lot for me), I didn’t have a ton of time to do much more than squeeze in my miles early in the morning in the basement on the Landice.
I love that thing though. It’s really easy to roll out of bed, throw on shorts and a sports bra, drink some water, and head to the basement to get running- much easier than the million layers I would have needed to tough it out outside. Though honestly, running could have been done outside; Dustin ran outside almost every day this week, even his long run. He did finally cave in to the treadmill on Sunday.
But seriously, look at the temperature on Sunday. Do you blame him?
But look at later this week- 30 degrees! I can’t wait to run outside again.
Anyways, here’s how this week worked out.
Monday: 2 mile warm-up, 8×1200’s at a 7:23 pace with 1 minute recovery in between, 2 mile cool down. 10 miles total on the treadmill before work. Yowsa.
Tuesday: 5 easy miles on the treadmill. British Arrow Awards after work with Dustin. I don’t know if it was because I was really tired from a stressful day at work or what, but the British Arrow Awards were real tear-jerkers this year! My oh my…picture taken pre-tears.
Wednesday: 7 easy miles on the treadmill. Another late night at work. I came home to a package in the mail from my niece Delaney, who LOVES Matilda. She drew her a picture and also sent her this hat. So sweet.
Tilda actually has been pretty miserable this week; vizslas are not cold weather dogs. She does not even want to go outside to go to the bathroom. It takes a lot of encouragement to get her out there and she does her business very quickly! We are going to start taking her to Pampered Pooch Playground more frequently when its this cold; we did on Friday and she was really happy to have a full day of play with her friends there.
Thursday: Complete rest. Not planned, but I was stuck at work until about 9 pm.
Friday: 7 treadmill miles before work.
Saturday: 14 miles on the treadmill. My coach told me to do 1 minute at 4% incline for every mile. That definitely broke it up but also made it a lot harder! Even with the 1 minute hill every mile, it was still pretty easy for me to just zone out to a show on Netflix. But I still miss the outdoors!
Saturday evening, I actually went BACK to the British Arrow Awards, this time with girlfriends. It was just as good the second time around!
Sunday: Thursday’s missed short speed workout was moved to today: 1 mile warmup, 15x200m repeats with 45 seconds recovery, 1 mile cool down 5 miles total. Also finally fit in some strength with a [solidcore] class! Yay!
We also had some visitors- Dustin’s family from Japan made a quick stop in Minneapolis before they go visit Dustin’s mom; they’ll be back here again after the actual holiday. Always lovely to see them.
Summary: 48 miles, 1 strength (solidcore)
I’m hoping that this upcoming week will be warmer and a little quieter at work. Looking forward to getting back into my normal training routine!
How was your week? Were you able to run outside?

Wow your cold weather is insane!
Definitely makes me appreciate our weather 🙂
I cannot imagine running 10+ miles on a treadmill but I guess with Netflix it won’t be that bad..? For some reason I’m just scared to try out the treadmill again because I’ve always felt the pain in my knee every time I run on the treadmill.
Great running week despite your busy work schedule!!!
Yes, last week was brutal. This week is much better!
The treadmill is a necessary evil during those cold spells though.
