I have a special guest post for you today from my sister Erin!
Erin is an avid runner who has completed several marathons (and an ultra!) She runs with the Fox River Trail Runners run club and appreciates how great running friends are! She’s here to share the details of a recent baby shower that she hosted for one of those run club friends. Hope you find this helpful for any showers you might have in the future!
Take it away, Erin!
My running friends and I decided to hold a baby shower for another run club friend. We wanted to keep it a simple, small shower, as the mother-to-be already had a family and a friend shower to attend. We had a total of 12 running friends invited, so we were able to host it comfortably at my house.
As we were all runners, and running was what brought us together, we decided to do a running-themed shower. As we searched for ideas, we found the Right Fits running themed baby shower post . We decided to build off of the ideas given in that post.
We sent out an evite to the shower because it would be an easy way to contact the guests on a few occasions prior to the event. We added a picture of the mother-to-be running a race and included that on the evite. We called our shower “Sydney’s (the mother to be) Shuffle!
We created the evite to look like a race advert and asked that the recipients register (rsvp) with the (rsvp) link that was included. The cost of registration was a dish to pass!
The week of the shower, we sent out an evite reminder that we wrote up like a week-of –race-day instructions. It included a reminder to bring a dish to pass to ensure their registration.
Using the ideas from the Right Fit’s post, we set up our party decorations like a race. We had race day registration, where guests paid for their registration (dropped off their food and signed the card included with the gift from the group—a gift card to Target for the baby and a gift card to a local running store for the mother), received their race bibs, and SWAG bag (onsies and crafts to decorate for the baby!)
We also had a water stop, gu stop (for sweets), food station (for savory), porta-potty, and finish line (where the gifts were opened).
We had an amazing cake made from scratch by one of the guests.
Isn’t this cake awesome??? And it was sooo delicious!
For party activities, we had the guests decorate the onesies.
Look at the finished products- so cute!
We played the guess the poop (melted chocolate) game where guests had to guess the name of the chocolate melted in the diapers.
The winner won a (poop) race medal. In the event of a tie, which there was, the contestants had to guess the mother-to-be’s PR for her half marathon. Whoever was the closest to the time, without going over, was the winner.
We also played the guess the actual birth date of the baby. Each guest wrote down when they thought the baby would be born. Once the baby comes, the winner will receive a Magic 8 ball.
We ended the party at the finish line of course!
We made a packet (basket) for the card holding the gift cards. We included items we had received in other race packets (don’t worry, none were used) and a really cute magnet that I had received from one of my sisters soon after I had one of my babies.
It was a wonderful party and a great way to celebrate our friend’s exciting new upcoming arrival!
Thanks Erin for sharing the details of this wonderful running themed baby shower.
