Last big week of training for the Cape Town marathon! Here’s my recap of marathon training and life in London as an American!
Monday: Rainy solo run commute + office 5k for 7.75 miles total.
Tuesday: Train to the office (with 1 mile bonus jog with backpack), then 3×2 miles progressively quicker for 11.2 miles total before work.
We went to see Vance Joy (an Australian singer) at Wembley Arena (not Wembley Stadium) after work, which was chill but good. It was much easier getting home after this gig than Taylor Swift! I was home and in bed right around 10 pm.
Wednesday: Hilly recovery run around Hampstead Heath, stopped to meet a beautiful falcon outside Highgate Cemetery who was there for “pigeon control!”
Heartcore Pilates reformer after work.
Thursday: Track Thursday! Warm-up, 12×400 with 400m jog in between for 9 miles total before work.
Sadly, my iphone 12 died (there was a hole in the front screen which allowed water to get into it) and I had to buy a new phone; they are more expensive here than in the U.S.! I wish I could have waited to buy it until the next time we were back in the states… And then of course, there’s all the hassle of setting everything up on the new one. Tedious! It felt like the whole week was dealing with phone issues. Its wild how much we rely on our phones for so many things these days!
Friday: 7.8 mile solo run before work, Heartcore pilates after work.
Saturday: 20.5 mile run from Hampstead all the way to Richmond (to the west, of Ted Lasso fame.) It was a nice group of Mornington Chasers, 8 of us to start with 4 going the full 20.
It was fun to do a totally new-to-me route, but that meant we had a long train ride back to Hampstead. I was so ready to be home and in a warm shower!
The route was mostly along the Thames through Battersea to Wandsworth to Putney to Richmond, where a large part of the Thames path becomes a bridle path. Quite muddy too! But there were lots of crew teams out on the Thames, which was neat.
Sunday: 7 mile run with Ruth; Dustin was up earlier and out the door as he went to the Vikings/Jets (NFL) game at the Tottenham Spurs stadium with some friends. American football in London!
Summary: 2 pilates classes, and a lot of miles- 70 to be exact.
Now it is time for a signficant taper. Woo-hoo!
And here’s a cute pic to close the post of Ruth giving Matilda a kiss!
These little devils worked together this week to tear into an Amazon package full of dog treats…of course, both of them were dealing with some tummy trouble after eating way too many at once. Argh!
I’m linking up with Running on the Fly and Confessions of a Mother Runner; check out their blogs to connect with other fitness bloggers for workout ideas and inspiration!
wow another marathon… you are more than ready.
I couldn’t wait either if my iphone died.
what a cute dog pic!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Darlene!
The NFL is going all-in with ex-US games this season — how cool that you went to a game.
Ugh on the phone saga. I out off getting a new one as long as possible.
The one way long run sounds fun, but I’’d also be eager for my post-run shower and coffee!
Good luck with your taper!
Oh, just Dustin went to the Vikings game, not me 🙂
You have had a great training cycle-enjoy your taper. Super excited for you
Thanks Deb!
Aw, Ruth and Matilda!!! Hee hee, I’m laughing at them breaking into the dog treats.
Sounds like you had a great week! Well, a great week of running- the phone issue sounds tedious. I’m excited for your race- enjoy the taper!
Thank you Jenny! Cheers!
EEEK! I can’t believe it’s only 2 weeks until Cape Town! Will you connect with Catrina when you’re there?
We saw Sturgill Simpson at the Salt Shed this week–Vance Joy just played there a couple of weeks ago! Sounds like it was a good show. I prefer these smaller venues to the big stadiums.
Enjoy your taper!
I’m not sure she reads my blog/ knows me, as she doesn’t comment so I haven’t planned to reach out!
I like the smaller venues too, except of course for a show like Taylor’s!
TWO weeks? Wow! Time flies! It sounds like you’ve had a really good training season and now you just gotta show up on race day – you got this! I hate dealing with phone (or any technology) drama – sorry your phone is on the fritz. good luck!
Thanks Melissa! I think the phone is mostly up and running- and I’m learning all the new tricks of the iphone 16!
Dang, 70 miles for the week! My total miles for September were 78, LOL! Such a sweet pic of Ruth & Matilda <3
I like the high mileage- and its all relative! I have a friend here who is close to 100 miles/week!
Have a lovely taper! What a super run out to Richmond. I have one here along the canals to Stratford-upon-Avon (then a pizza, then home on the train) I’ve never quite managed to work into training!
Yay for taper time! Enjoy your rest as you prepare to run Cape Town.
Love the picture of Ruth and Matilda!
