Hey all, it’s a surprise Saturday post!
I saw others posting on social media about a Valentine’s Day Challenge, where you answer questions about your partner. I enjoyed reading those posts, so I thought it would be a nice break from my normal fitness posts.
So here are my answers to the questions about me and my Valentine, Dustin!
How long have you been together? About 16 years
Married: 12 years last October
Age Difference: 5 years (I’m 39, he’s 44.)
Kids? Nope. Just our dogs, Matilda (11 years) and Ruth (1.5 years)
Who said I love you first: Dustin
Who is taller: Dustin- not by a ton, I think he’s 5’10”, I’m 5’8″.
Most impatient: Me!
Most sensitive: Me!
Most stubborn: Me!
Loudest: Me.
Falls asleep first: Always me. I definitely need more sleep and love naps. Dustin is anti-nap- the horror!
Cooks better: Dustin for sure, and he’s a phenomenal baker! His cinnamon rolls are world-famous. 🙂
Better morning person: Me!
Better driver: Dustin for sure. I hate driving.
Most competitive: Probably me.
Funniest: Definitely Dustin. He is quite clever.
Who is more social: Definitely me.
Who is the neat freak: Me!
Who initiated your first kiss? Dustin!
Do you get flowers often? Never- and I’m okay with that!
Dustin’s love language is definitely “Acts of Service” and he demonstrates this love language all the time. My love language is “Words of Affirmation,” by the way.
But we know this about each other, so that’s helpful in itself!
How long did it take to get serious? Maybe a few months.
Who picks where you go to dinner? Usually me.
Who is the first one to admit they’re wrong? Me.
Who has more tattoos? Equal.
Who sings better? We are both terrible.
Hogs the remote? Me.
Spends the most? I definitely like to shop, but Dustin buys a lot more of the big-ticket items and spends a lot on house projects.
Did you go to the same school? I was doing undergrad at the University of Minnesota when Dustin was doing his MBA there, but we never crossed paths as far as we know. He went to high school and college in Boston. I grew up in Beloit, Wisconsin.
Where is the furthest you have traveled together?
This is a fun one! We went to Bali for our honeymoon, which was amazing.
Japan for the Tokyo Marathon was pretty far to go as well!
He came to visit me in Mumbai, India when I was there for work.
But the farthest we travelled together was most definitely Antarctica for the Antarctica Marathon in 2019!
Let’s bring it back to running with a few bonus questions!
Do you guys run together?
Sometimes! We often do our Sunday runs together and have done plenty of long runs together, particularly when traveling. But he’s quite a bit faster than me, so generally we run separately.
Has Dustin ever paced you in a marathon?
YES! Twice. First at the Phoenix Marathon, where I got my first BQ:
And second, at Big Cottonwood where I set my PR (and got a Boston time with enough of a buffer to actually be able to run it!)
This picture is always good for a laugh. I was really struggling in the last 10k and Dustin was all smiles and a sneaky thumbs-up for the photographer!
I’m lucky to have a partner who is just as passionate about running and travel (and dogs) as me.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Great post! It was fun to read! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Erin!
Oh I loved this!!! And the pics, super. My love language is Acts of Service and my husband’s is Words of Affirmation and it took us ages to work out that was causing a disconnect. All good now, and he knows making me a cuppa will make me feel all loved!
Oh funny you are the opposite of Dustin and me for love languages! It’s definitely a helpful thing to be aware of 🙂
A great idea for a post and I always admire your photos.
Is that first photo of you two with both the dogs professionally done? It’s very nice!
I don’t get any flowers either and I’m fine with that too! 😉
Thanks Catrina! Yes, a friend of ours is a photographer and took the photos in the fall of us with the pups for our holiday card.
I’d rather get a plant than flowers! 🙂
[…] I dive into my boring recap, I did share this Valentine’s Day Challenge post yesterday with questions about my special […]
This is so fun! You are such a cute couple!
Such a fun one to read, I love that we even got a glimpse of “mustache” Dustin in the photos 😉
Haha thanks Cresta! That mustache did not photograph well
This is sweet. Love your wedding photos, don’t remember seeing those before
I know about Beloit — when I was in college there was always a Beloit list of college freshmen wouldn’t have known X and it was fascinating.
I need to look into my love language. I have never finshed the quizzes because so many PDAs (fine for others but ick no not me).
Yes! You are right about the list from Beloit College! I always enjoyed that one.
