What a gorgeous week in the Twin Cities, wasn’t it? If this weather could just stick around for a while longer, I would be very happy. I tried to get outside as much as I could to enjoy the treat Mother Nature gave us (i.e. temps in the 60/70’s in November!)
Monday: 7.6 miles in the morning at a 9:20 min/mile pace. I had to get my run done before work so I could hand out candy to Trick or Treaters! Last year, we had a small turnout with lots of leftover candy. But this year we had a ton of kids- probably close to 200. I guess that’s the difference between a Saturday Halloween and a weekday one.
Tuesday: 5 miles at a 9:08 min/mile pace. That morning I had my appointment at Bier + Brauer about my toe. This post explains the situation in detail. The short version is that I have sesamoiditis under my right big toe. I can still run on it, but should ice after and keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get worse with running. No high heels!
That evening, I had a work dinner at 112 Eatery; I hadn’t been there for years and it’s still just as good as ever!
Wednesday: Complete rest to let my toe recover from the soft tissue work at Bier +Brauer the day before. I hosted a little pizza party (with pizzas from Hello Pizza!) to wish my friend Christie well at her marathon. She ran the Monumental Indianapolis marathon yesterday and BQ’d- congrats Christie! The party was also just a good opportunity for some run club friends to get together and catch up. Some of us are different paces so we don’t always get a chance to chat. (And I love hosting with the new kitchen!)
Thursday: Wednesday’s party didn’t go too late, but I was still regretting my decision to sign up for a 5:15 am FlyFleet Running class. So early….
But I got up and it was worth it!
FlyFeet Running is a new treadmill/strength studio downtown. They are offering free classes right now for their soft opening. It was a great workout and I was quite sore afterwards (more from the strength part of the class than the running part though.) I plan to share a full review soon; I’m taking one more free class this week. The class involved 2 minute all-out sprints on the treadmill; I would guess I ran a little over a mile total. I didn’t keep track.
Friday: 6 mile run, slow for me (9:44 min/mile) with my friend Lindsey (she’s great at keeping us honest at a slower pace if that’s what we need!). I wanted to make sure my toe was okay plus I was sore from FlyFeet. I think its important to have those slower runs. Pure recovery!
That evening I took an Arms & Abs class at [solidcore.]
Saturday: 13 mile long run at a 9 min/mile. I ran to the club and joined my friends Laura and Sarah for a gorgeous fall run out to “the Bunny,” i.e. Cottontail on the Trail. It was so nice outside!
After the run, we took Matilda and her weekend guest Darla to the airport dog park. Darla is the sweetest little dog ever, but she doesn’t really need the dog park time like Matilda! Darla laid low and observed while Matilda wore herself out chasing birds and shadows.
Later that afternoon, we had some ‘family’ photos taken by Poppy Designs. Ami, the photographer, is the sister of my friend Erin, fellow Minneapolis fitness blogger at Sweet, Sweat, Life!
Matilda was not behaving, so hopefully the photos still turned out!
We received one sneak peek (below). This picture is copyright by the photographer. Ami was great to work with and I definitely recommend her!
Sunday: 7.8 miles at an 8:27 min/mile average at the Mill City Running Donut Run! Actually, the race name this year was “Hustle & Dough.”
I ran the donut run last year (read about it HERE) and had such a good time that I convinced Dustin to join this year (and Matilda, though she couldn’t go inside any of the donut shops). I’ll share more on this event in a separate post, but it was a gorgeous day and a really fun event!
Tilda is eyeing up the donut in the below pic…hoping for some crumbs!
We ran a lot of the run with my old friend Norris from my college days. We were moving pretty quickly for me- we had one 7:47 min/mile and it felt hard. Clearly, I’ve lost some speed since Big Cottonwood. Time to get back into shape!
Summary: About 40 miles of running, 1 solidcore class, 1 FlyFeet Running class, 1 complete rest day.
Did you watch the NYC marathon today?
We recorded it and watched it after the donut run. I can’t wait to run that marathon some day!
Join Jess and me for our Weekly Recap link-up! Details below. Jess’s marathon is next Saturday- the Richmond marathon (which I loved!) I’m so excited for her; be sure to follow along with her running adventures at Jess Runs ATL!
Ah, the family photo is so cute! I’ve been thinking of getting some done for us, too…but want to wait until after the new year because we will likely be getting Skipper a (four legged) friend 🙂
We have a place here similar to what you described with the running and strength called OrangeTheory. I wonder if it was similar. I’ve heard good things but honestly, it intimidates me a little!
Another four legged friend!! How exciting!
We have OrangeTheory here too! It actually is pretty similar though it incorporates rowing as well as treadmill. But not intimidating at all!
FlyFeet running sounds awesome! I reach we had something like that in our town!
I absolutely love the family portrait as well!
Thanks so much Kimberly! Family photos aren’t just for people with kids, right? 🙂
Ugh – I missed the donut run again!! Looks like it was a fun event. Great recap and nice running as always! Fly Feet is right next to my office. I can’t do the early morning classes since I have to get the kids to school, but maybe I’ll try a later class on of these days.
You should try it Eric, I’d be very curious to hear what you think!
Ahhh I miss running and I miss doing this link up with you and Jess!
I’m glad you had a great time and this donut race sounds like so much fun.
I wish they would do something like that here!
The donut run was great, I’m working on a recap now 🙂 Lots of great donuts here in the midwest, haha!
Sending you well wishes to keep recovering!
