Welcome to the second edition of Friday Five. Last week, I shared my five favorite ‘long’ running tanks. Today I am sharing my top 5 favorite running shorts. I am a woman, so these are my personal top 5 shorts for women. Sorry guys! Maybe I can get Dustin to do a guest post for the best MEN’S running shorts. 🙂
Five Favorite Running Shorts for Women:
Oiselle Roga Shorts: (retail around $38-$42)
Hands down, my favorite running shorts. I have them in brown, black, navy, orange, gray, and maroon. (And I ordered a few more during Oiselle’s recent appearance on Zulily.) I wear them ALL THE TIME. They are my go-to race short. Here’s my full review, but in summary, they are quick-drying, flattering, non-chafing and have a zippered pocket. My favs. They are available in short or long. Mine are all the shorter version.
Oiselle Distance Shorts Retail at $46
The distance shorts are fantastic because of all the pockets. I wore them for Grandma’s Marathon and fit a ton of GU’s in there. Love them, but they aren’t quite as flattering as the rogas. I have heard people say they give you a bit of a “bubble butt.” I think its just that they are more of a traditional running short vs. the feminine cut of the roga. I have them in black and hot pink and wear them all the time. Full review here.
Patagonia Pro-Strider Shorts
Another pair of fantastic running shorts. Here is my full review. So many pockets- SO many. Flattering fit. No chafing. Quick drying. Love these shorts! Specifically designed for trail running, but they work on pavement too of course, haha!
Lululemon Speed Shorts
These are a Lululemon staple. Everyone I know who has a pair loves their speed sports. VERY flattering fit and they last forever. Worth the cost. So many fun colors. Buy a pair!
Saucony Bullet Speed Tight shorts
Every girl needs a pair of booty shorts right? I actually really like these for racing. No wind resistance. Still a flattering fit. Zippered pocket. This is a strong choice for a good pair of booty shorts! Here is my full review.
Let me know if I missed any of your favorite running shorts!
Great post!! I’m on the hunt for long run shorts right now with pockets. I’ll have to check out the Oiselle ones. I just got a pair from Athleta that I’m in love with, the Ready Set Short. The rear pocket is large enough to fit my phone, and they have two smaller pockets on the sides that fit gels. Plus, they are super flattering. I will likely have a ton of these by the end of summer!!
The Patagonia one are also great for pocket space. I’ll check out the Ready Set Short!
Yes please, for a men’s version of this Friday Five! And I need an intervention to help me get over my weird refusal to spend money on running shorts. I can spend $120 on shoes – no problem! New running watch – sign me up! But I see a good pair of shorts for $45 and I turn into a curmudgeon. And men’s shorts never go on sale or clearance, it seems!
But a good pair of shorts will last you longer than your running shoes! They are worth the $45 if you love them 🙂
I know, exactly. I think it is just my aversion to paying full price for clothes. Gotta just get over it!
Although I train in shorts in the warmer months, my go-to for a race is a running skirt. I love the flattering fit and feminine feel. My favourite right now is by Under Armour. I might check out your Oiselle and Lululemon recommendations when I’m next in the US though.
Allison, are Oiselle and Lululemon not available in the UK? What are similar brands there- Sweaty Betty? Any others I should know about when I head that direction?
Those brands tend to be quite pricey here so when I’m in the States I hit the Lululemon outlet for some new kit.
You should definitely be looking at Sweaty Betty when you’re here. That stuff is fab. I can’t think of anything else that you wouldn’t get at home, so I guess it just depends how the prices compare for anything you like.
I will definitely be doing a little Sweaty Betty shopping while in London. Can’t wait!
I really love those Patagonia shorts, and I may be interested in trying the Saucony shorts, too. I’ve just branched out into tight shorts like that within the past year and I really like them for speed work or racing, but I’ve had trouble with some of my styles riding up. I may be buying a size too big, but I don’t know. Do you have any problems with those Saucony shorts riding up?
I know what you mean about riding up- annoying! The Saucony shorts have been pretty good for me. They creep up a little bit, but they definitely don’t ride up as much as others I have tried (I had a pair of Nike ones and a pair of Under Armour ones and they both turned into “bum huggers” or whatever people call them- more like underwear, ha!)
