With our trip to Colorado last weekend, I missed my weekly recap on Sunday. Here is a recap of Grandma’s Marathon training from the past two weeks…it included quite a bit of running!
Week of April 27- May 3
Monday: 7 easy miles with the run club
Tuesday: I was stuck at work late this night and didn’t start running until 7:45 pm. It was hard to get motivated but I knew I had to get it done. Workout: 2 mile warm up, then “15-10-10-5” with 5 minutes recovery between sets, 2 mile cool down; the 15 minutes was under 8 min/miles, the 10 minute sets were under 7:45, and then the final 5 minutes as “fast as you can.” “As fast as I can” wasn’t really that fast at 9 pm, but I did my best. Tough workout, but I really liked it!
Wednesday: 5.5 miles in the morning with my friend Kelly, 4 miles easy in the evening with Matilda the vizsla, 9.5 total on the day
Thursday: 7. 5 miles easy in the morning
Friday: 6 miles easy in the morning before we caught our flight to Denver
Saturday: 25k trail race in Colorado. I did about 1 mile to warm-up and 1 mile to cool-down after the race for 17.5 miles total
Sunday: 5 miles easy in Boulder, CO, 3 miles of hiking in Estes Park
Summary: 62.5 miles, no cross training (boo…)
Monday: 5 miles easy in Boulder. I was supposed to do a second run, but our flight home got delayed so we weren’t home until close to 10 pm. (I actually had two double runs on my schedule this week and neither one worked out due to work and scheduling…)
Tuesday: Tempo run: 3 miles to warmup, 6 miles at tempo pace, 1 mile to cool-down. I did this workout at the run club and they were running in Theodore Wirth park, which is pretty hilly. I could definitely tell from my mile splits when I was going uphill and when I was going downhill! 10 miles total.
Wednesday: 8 miles easy in the morning, [solidcore] after work with my friend Monica (so fun!)
Thursday: Hill workout in the morning: 20x100m repeats, with 2 miles to warm up and 2 miles to cool-down 6 miles total
Friday: 7 miles easy in the morning with my friend Lindsey
Saturday: 20 mile long run with the club
Sunday: 8 miles easy
Summary: 64 miles of running, 1 strength (solidcore)
Lots of running, running, running over the past two weeks, but I’m feeling okay. I am careful to take my recovery runs really easy. I am sleeping a lot and trying to stay extra hydrated. Only 6 weeks until Grandma’s Marathon!
Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms out there! I feel lucky that my parents actually are in town for a few days. Today we did a historical walking tour on Summit Avenue. It was actually really interesting- I definitely recommend it!
That walking tour sounds really fun! Next time I’m in the Cities, I’ll have to look into that. Congrats on completing another few weeks of training! Keep up the good work! Grandma’s will be here before you know it. 🙂
Thanks for stopping in Katie! Definitely check out a walking tour. Here’s the website: http://sites.mnhs.org/historic-sites/james-j-hill-house/summit-avenue-walking-tour
Congrats on two awesome weeks of training! Lots and lots of miles, so I’m glad you are feeling good 🙂
Thanks Jenna! Looking forward to Grandma’s…especially the post- race celebration 🙂
